Bioinformatician - Software Developer (Part Time)

Brief position description: The department of molecular and cell biology at James Cook University is seeking to appoint a bioinformatician to work on a human cancer genetics project in collaboration with a clinical genetics group in Brisbane. The appointee will take responsibility for development and implementation of a best practice computational software infrastructure for the analysis of patient sequence information. The initial goal will be to mirror the infrastructure already in operation in Brisbane but it is expected that
the appointee will interact with research teams and clinicians to identify opportunities for expansion and improvement. The goal of the system developed will be to perform variant identification in human sequence data with the output utilized for personalized medicine within the Townsville hospital. The position is funded for 18 months at half time.
