Brief position description: Highly motivated researchers are invited to apply for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position as part of an ongoing Australian Laureate Program entitled Reconstructing the Universal Tree and Network of Life, led by Professor Phil Hugenholtz. The project will involve leveraging a primary resource of the Program, the Genome Taxonomy Database (http://gtdb.ecogenomic.org/) to explore and understand the evolution of novel phylogenetic groups and functions. Examples include study of several basal Planctomycete lineages recently highlighted by metagenome-assembled genomes with regard to e.g. cell compartmentalisation, and evolution of ultrasmall cell mophotypes in bacterial and archaeal lineages.
