Brief position description:The person appointed to this position will be responsible for assembly, analysis and interpretation of genome-scale sequence data from coral reef symbionts and related dinoflagellate species within a recently funded Discovery Project. The successful applicant will collaborate as appropriate in the identification of potential genomic signatures of symbiosis and adaptive selection. There are opportunities to be part of research teams, to address individually-developed and collaboratively-generated research questions, to travel for collaborative research visits or attending conferences, and to supervise honours, masters and doctoral students.
To be successful in this appointment, you will hold a PhD in molecular biology, microbiology, marine biology, genomics, bioinformatics or a related discipline, partnered with at least three years' full-time experience in a relevant area of molecular biology, microbiology, genomics, transcriptomics, or bioinformatics. You will also hold experience in scientific programming and/or scripting, having familiarity with working under UNIX environment and a knowledge of modern scripting language. Additionally, you will also be able to demonstrate: a high-level ability to write scientific papers; an organised approach to tasks with high attention to detail; and effective collaboration and communication skills.
