The Opportunity
The genetic counsellor will contribute to the development and delivery of a range of projects in line with established objectives of the Clinical Translation Group in KCCG. Specifically, to coordinate with the establishment and evaluate a National Genomics Research Resource Centre (NGRRC) which will bring together researchers, research participants, genetic counsellors, clinicians as well as clinical genetic services to ensure nationally consistent approach to providing clinically actionable germline genomic information generated through research. Once the NGRRC is established the genetic counsellor will provide genetic counselling to research participants.

Reporting to the Head of KCCG - Scientific, this is a two year fixed term position with a potential to extend. The key responsibilities include:
- Project manage establishing the NGRRC including a web-based platform with a tailored messaging system, 1800 telephone line accessible to researchers and research participants and online resources for researchers and research participants.
- Provide genetic counselling to research participants notified of clinically actionable genetic information with on-referral to clinical genetic services.
- Prepare and maintain documentation for reporting, monitoring and evaluation purposes to ensure accessibility of quality information and contribute to the achievement of NGRRC project outcomes.
- Contribute to the evaluation of the NGRRC.
- All staff are required to comply with Garvan’s Work Health & Safety (WHS) Policy and work in accordance with the WHS management system at all times.

About You
- A postgraduate qualification in Genetic Counselling
- Human Genetics Society of Australasia (HGSA) Board eligible Associate Genetic Counsellor, or HGSA certified Genetic - Counsellor and a current financial member of the HGSA and Australasian Society of Genetic Counsellors (ASGC)
- Experience in project management desirable in a professional, clinical or research environment
- Excellent organisational and interpersonal skills with the ability to innovate and achieve results
- Clear and articulate communication skills both written and verbal with ability to work independently with multiple stakeholders
- Advanced computer skills, with fluency in a variety of software packages including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experienced in the use of databases, writing and presenting documents and reports, as well as using online library searching software

The Translational Genome Informatics Group (TIG) within KCCG is a multidisciplinary team of bioinformaticians, statisticians, software engineers and clinical researchers, developing and deploying bioinformatic methods to study genomic variation, focussed on particular diseases. This work includes rare monogenic disease and cancer as well as complex diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis and immunological immune diseases.

This position will work with the team leader of the Translational Genome Informatics Group to perform research into translational genomics, including developing, streamlining, and validating approaches for analysing and interpreting multi-omic data with the focus on clinical translation.

The role will be responsible for developing new bioinformatic approaches to study unique aspects of various diseases, and incorporate these into the analytical pipeline. These methods should be developed in a manner consistent with KCCG’s development practices, so that they can be translated into the clinical pipeline. There is scope within this position to perform genomics and bioinformatics research, publish scientific papers, and to pursue independent funding.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Translational Genomics, this position will be responsible for helping to provide direction and support in clinical genomics, genome informatics and translational research in cancer genomics. This will include:

Undertaking and directing translational research with an emphasis on developing biological insights that are relevant to patient outcomes.
Improve the breadth, quality and efficiency of existing genomic analysis pipelines, through development of improved bioinformatics approaches.
Develop approaches to optimise and streamline interpretation of genomes.
Occasionally represent KCCG at events, or talks with external stakeholders.
Staying abreast on advances in genomics and next generation sequencing technology in general as well as maintaining knowledge about clinical genomic testing and personalised medicine.
The position will be offered full-time for 2 years in the first instance.

The Opportunity
We are now seeking a Head of Computational Biology to lead a team in advancing the state-of-the-art in multi-omics analysis. The primary specific objectives of the team are: (1) establish computational best practices for analysis of -omics datasets and bring these in-house along with key public datasets (2) development of new tools and algorithms to facilitate interpretation of multi-omics datasets and (3) collaboration with experimental research groups to efficiently analyse large datasets.

This leadership role will be responsible for coordinating and executing relevant projects and activities within the Computational Biology group. They will ensure KCCG remains at the forefront of computational approaches and place emphasis on methodologies that have transformative potential and could be used in clinical practice.

The successful candidate will demonstrate the following key skills and attributes:

A PhD in genomics or a related field
Strong background in bioinformatics, with at least 5 years of experience

The Human Comparative and Prostate Cancer Genomics (HCPCG) Laboratory is focused on understanding the complexities of the human and cancer genome and how genomic variation has shaped human diversity, health, cancer evolution, risk and outcome.

This is a newly funded position, from the Australian National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), to examine genomic alterations contributing to both ethnic disparities and those driving aggressive prostate cancer. The project is prefaced on the hypothesis that somatic (acquired) genomic alterations are fundamental drivers of clinical heterogeneity and treatment response in prostate cancer. Thus, the project seeks to identify the somatic genomic landscape as potential biomarkers of disease and treatment outcome by using whole-genome sequencing of tumour and matched normal patient samples.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Head of HCPCG, the Bioinformatics Research Officer will focus on the implementation of high-throughput computational tools to analyse next-generation sequencing (NGS) data to identify somatic variations associated with prostate cancer.

This is a one year full time opportunity in the first instance with the possibility to extend.
