RESEARCH OFFICER/POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW IN BIOINFORMATICS/COMPUTATIONAL BIOLOGY

Brief position description: The Lynn EMBL Australia Group at the South Australian Health and Medical Research Institute (SAHMRI) in Adelaide, Australia is now seeking applications for a bioinformatics/computational biology researcher to work on a variety of projects in the cancer systems biology and systems immunology areas. Prior experience in at least some of the following areas is essential: analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) data; network and pathway biology; cancer systems biology; machine learning methods and experience in biomarker discovery and validation. Active collaboration and the ability to manage multiple different projects simultaneously is essential. An initial 2 year full-time contract is available, potentially renewable.

The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team that is equally divided between computational and experimental systems biology. The group is headed by Prof. David Lynn, who also heads the SAHMRI Computational and Systems Biology Program, one of 16 research programs at the institute. The group is currently funded by EMBL Australia Group Leader funding, The NHMRC, Cancer Australia, as well as several smaller grants and consists of five senior postdoctoral researchers, two research officers as well as PhD and honours students, who employ in vitro and in vivo experimental and clinical models coupled with systems biology approaches to investigate cancer and the immune system. On the bioinformatics side, the group leads the development of a wide range of bioinformatics applications including InnateDB.com, an internationally recognised systems biology platform. David has also led the computational biology aspects of €12 million European Commission funded cancer systems biology project.
