Brief position description: Level A/B research position (depending on qualifications) fully funded for up to 3 yrs is available immediately to join the new Gastrointestinal Genetics Research Group directed by Prof Mauro D’Amato (https://scholar.google.com/citations?user=NkBZE9QAAAAJ&hl=en) at the School of Biological Sciences, Monash University, Clayton Campus. The team combines genomic, computational and pre-clinical expertise to elucidate the pathogenetic mechanisms predisposing to gastrointestinal (GI) disease. The druggable genome, nutrigenetics and host (genome) - microbiota interactions are new research lines. The ultimate goal is a translational application for therapeutic precision in gastroenterology.
We are seeking a computational biologist/bioinformatics expert to join our team and lead research focused on the genetic causes of inflammatory bowel disease, irritable bowel syndrome, microscopic colitis and other GI conditions. The successful candidate will be in charge of project(s) involving large-scale data analysis (genomics, (epi)genetics, transcriptomics, metagenomics etc), the interpretation of results and their communication in scientific journals and at international meetings, including co-supervision of junior members of the team. Specific projects will be discussed based on the candidate interest, competence and projected scientific trajectory (we are happy to serve as springboard for independence).
You are at an advanced stage of your postdoc/junior PI scientific career, or have equivalent research experience as support analyst/computational biologist, and are looking for the opportunity to take on a pivotal role in a nascent group of internationally recognised leaders. You hold a PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, genetics or related fields, have documented knowledge of R/Bioconductor, Python and programming languages, Unix environment and high-performance computing clusters.
