Lead by Professor Alex Brown, this National Indigenous Genomics Consortium will use cutting-edge medical science to deliver better health outcomes for Indigenous Australians and drive the establishment of Australia's first large scale efforts in Indigenous genomics.
The team is united by the goal of ensuring diverse populations have equitable access to the life-changing potential of genomic medicine and they now have an opportunity for a Bioinformatician to apply their expertise and be part of this life changing research.
The Role
Reporting to the Chief Data Scientist and working with other members of the Bioinformatics team, this research role will analyse datasets and develop novel computational methods to integrate datasets generated from a diverse range of sources.
A full list of responsibilities can be found in the job description however some of your duties will include:
• Develop efficient analysis strategies for projects involving multiple omics approaches and techniques, including genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, metagenomics, metabolomics, and proteomics.
• Develop publications and scientific reports relating to Indigenous Genomics and other Precision Medicine projects
• Work collaboratively with the Data Science team to develop competitive funding applications.
About You
The ideal applicant will have a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, or other relevant discipline combined with significant relevant experience.
• Prior experience working in High-throughput sequencing, Statistics or Data integration and visualisation techniques
• Prior experience working in a high-performance computing environment.
• Programming skills in one of: Python, R, C/C++, Perl, SQL, Go, Rust, or Java.
This is a full-time position for 12 months in the first instance. Part-time may be considered for the right applicant.
