Research Fellow - Klebsiella Genomic Surveillance and Sero-epidemiology @ VIC

Position title: Research Fellow - Klebsiella Genomic Surveillance and Sero-epidemiology

Employer: Monash University

Closing date: 10 July 2022

Brief position description: We are seeking a post-doctoral research fellow with expertise in bacterial genomic analyses to contribute to ongoing projects exploring the diversity and epidemiology of Klebsiella surface antigens. The appointee will use computational biology approaches to investigate the sero-epidemiology of Klebsiella polysaccharide capsules and lipopolysaccharides. Klebsiella species are among the World Health Organization priority pathogens for which novel control strategies are urgently needed, and the Klebsiella capsule and lipopolysaccharides are key targets for novel vaccines. Our team has developed genomic approaches to explore the diversity and epidemiology of these important antigens. In collaboration with researchers at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (UK), the Statens Serum Institut (Denmark) and other global partners, we are continuing to improve these analytical approaches and apply them to large genomic datasets in order to directly inform vaccine design. The appointee will contribute to these and related efforts exploring the genomic epidemiology of Klebsiella species.
