Bioinformatics Research Officer - Papenfuss Lab, WEHI @ VIC

Position title: Bioinformatics Research Officer - Papenfuss Lab, WEHI

Employer: WEHI

Closing date: 20 July 2022

Brief position description: An exciting new opportunity exists for a talented and motivated computational researcher to join our research team at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. The role will involve developing and applying novel algorithms and models to identify genomic rearrangements or structural variants (SVs) in cancer genome sequencing data to understand chromosomal instability. Building on current state-of-the-art computational techniques that were created in the lab, the position will involve developing and applying novel algorithms and potentially transformational approaches using machine learning to identify and making sense of SVs. These will be applied to a number of outstanding cancer genome sequencing cohorts to drive new cancer discoveries using computational approaches and make an impact in understanding chromosomal instability in cancer. The successful candidate will join a dynamic team of computational scientists in a supportive and flexible working environment. They will be encouraged to develop new research directions that complement existing themes within the labs and have the opportunity to establish and contribute to collaborative research projects and to gain supervision experience.
