Brief position description: James Cook University (JCU) now has an exciting opportunity for an exceptional early career researcher to join our dynamic team of professionals in the Centre for Tropical Bioinformatics and Molecular Biology to strengthen our Bioinformatics capacity in support of research in human health and tropical disease. The position is full time, fixed term to December 2026 and based in Cairns. Remuneration is at Academic Level B: $97,856 - $115,465 per annum plus superannuation. Building on our recent discoveries, we are now seeking an innovative and enthusiastic early career researcher to develop bioinformatic software to support a variety of large genomics projects centered on the role of genetic variation in human disease and host/parasite interactions. In addition to research, you will also undertake learning, teaching and engagement activities, contributing to the development and expansion of JCU’s undergraduate/postgraduate teaching efforts in Bioinformatics. With a PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, software engineering, biostatistics or related disciplines, you bring extensive experience in the development of computational workflows and software tools; pipeline/algorithm development and implementation in R, Python, Perl, shell scripts; next generation sequencing data analysis (RNA-Seq, WGS, long-reads, single cell) and analysis of genetic variation. You demonstrate enthusiasm and capacity for conducting internationally recognised research evidenced by a track record of publications.
