Position title: Clinical cancer genomics curation scientist (Papenfuss and Scott labs)

Employer: WEHI

Closing date: 9 September 2022

Brief position description: The curation scientist role will play a key role in the WEHI Stafford Fox Rare Cancer Program. The Program aims to improve the healthcare available for people with rare cancers through cancer genome discovery, translation and personalised medicine. A major focus is to use information contained in the genomes of rare cancers to match them with existing anti-cancer treatments.
The role will be responsible for downstream interpretation of genomic sequencing data, variant curation, and interpretation, and drafting of written reports to referring clinicians. The incumbent will be based jointly between the Papenfuss and Scott labs at WEHI. The role will involve working closely with bioinformatics and laboratory researchers and clinicians in these labs, as well as interacting with other experts as required. Training in clinical curation will be provided via a close relationship with the University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research. The incumbent will be responsible for the provision of curated reports that will be discussed at regular WEHI Stafford Fox Rare Cancer meetings and weekly molecular tumour board meetings and returned to treating clinicians.

The position is available for two years in a part- or full-time capacity. Strong support for flexible working arrangements means that in-person, hybrid, or remote working arrangements are possible. The salary range will be dependent on credentials and experience, but anticipated to be Research Employee Level A6-A8 ($93,415 - $100,270). Up to 17% superannuation and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
