Position title: Senior Scientist, Translational Bioinformatics
Employer: CSL
Closing date: 9 October 2022
Brief position description: We are hiring a Senior Scientist, Translational Bioinformatics to join our Research team, based at Bio21 Institute, in the heart of Melbourne’s Biomedical Precinct.
In this newly created position, you will provide scientific and technical expertise to help answer biomedical research questions at the pre-clinical and clinical stage of drug development using advanced bioinformatics. You will expand CSL’s R&D capability in Translational Bioinformatics in order to derive biological insights from large-scale multi-omic data available in public and commercial databases, as well as generated from in-house high-throughput sequencing and other omic experiments. These analyses will help answer questions in areas of key importance to CSL’s drug development pipeline, including asset positioning, biomarker discovery, understanding drug mechanisms of action, identifying new drug candidates, and patient stratification.
Working closely with scientists, you will set project objectives and determine and implement data generation, data analytics, and bioinformatics platform development strategies. You will also work alongside CSL’s external collaborators.
Reporting to the Senior Manager, Translational Bioinformatics you will:
* Provide input into experimental design of bioinformatics analyses including transcriptomics (RNA-seq), proteomics, and similar assays
* Carry out and interpret bioinformatics analyses including transcriptomics (RNA-seq) and proteomics
* Contribute to the interpretation and reporting of the biological insights derived from bioinformatics analyses, in collaboration with the Translational Science group
* Work with Research and IT data managers to implement processes for managing translational data and ensure compliance with CSL’s regulatory requirements
To be successful, you will need:
* PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, computer science, or a related discipline, with significant computational and biomedical components.
* Experience in analysing RNASeq datasets and working with life scientists to draw statistically solid biological insights from data.
* Experience in genomic variant analysis on patient cohorts and/or utilizing genomic variant data from public databases to understand mechanism of action of targets, drug candidates or diseases and support translational biomarkers.
* Experience in applying network biology and pathway analysis algorithms (using open source and/or commercial tools, e.g. IPA).
* Experience in using public databases to answer key research questions related to experimental design, biomarker discovery and patient stratification (e.g., gene expression databases, clinical variants, etc.).
* Experience in working in a Unix-like and high-performance computing (HPC) environment using Python, R and other scientific computing languages.
In return you will receive:
* Fantastic remuneration package and the opportunity to access flexible work arrangements
* Access to health & wellbeing initiatives and programs & access to global employee share plan
* Career progression to help you fulfil your promising future
* Working with Australia’s leading biopharmaceutical company and top 5 ASX listed
* And more!
