Brief position description: Seonix Bio is a start-up company developing world leading technology to identify those at genetic risk of glaucoma so they can be diagnosed and treated earlier. Glaucoma is the world’s leading cause of irreversible blindness with 80 million sufferers worldwide, and is treatable if discovered early. Yet, 50% of glaucoma is currently undiagnosed. Seonix believes there is a major opportunity to transform clinical glaucoma care and reduce preventable blindness. Seonix’s technology is based on seminal research into a polygenic risk score for glaucoma, published in Nature Genetics.
Seonix is seeking a senior bioinformatician, bioinformatician, or computational biologist - depending on experience - primarily to:
- Research and develop a range of future applications for the company, including predictive algorithms combining genetic data with other data sources, custom genetic assay design and development, and polygenic risk scores for new diseases.
- Contribute to research and development of Seonix’s polygenic risk score for glaucoma and associated pipelines/software.
The successful candidate will report to the CEO and will work with Seonix’s Scientific Advisory team, bioinformaticians and software engineers.
The role may be full-time or part-time, depending on the candidate. A minimum commitment of 3 days per week is required. The role will be tailored to the experience of the candidate, and may suit either a senior bioinformatician or, for example, a capable post doc who is early in their career.
The successful candidate must be self-starting and self-driven, strong technically, have good communication and organizational skills, and be able to perform a wide variety of tasks in a start-up environment.
Seonix will offer a competitive package, depending on experience.
This is a rare opportunity for a talented individual to join an exciting company at an early stage and make a real impact.
