Bioinformatics postdoctoral researcher: Large-scale cancer omics analyses and methods development @ VIC

Position title: Bioinformatics postdoctoral researcher: Large-scale cancer omics analyses and methods development

Employer: WEHI

Closing date: 30 June 2022

Brief position description: An exciting opportunity exists for a talented and motivated researcher to join our research team to apply and develop statistical bioinformatics methods for use with large cancer genomics and other omics datasets at Australia’s pre-eminent biomedical research institute. The position will involve applying and developing novel analytical methods for normalizing and integrating large cancer genomics and other omics datasets and using the results in collaboration with cancer researchers to contribute new insights into cancer. In the first instance the appointee will work with Profs Terry Speed and Tony Papenfuss and Dr Ramyar Molania on expanding the analyses presented in the publication "Removing unwanted variation from large-scale cancer RNA sequencing data" (Nature Biotechnology, to appear) to specific datasets of interest to WEHI cancer researchers. It is hoped that this line of research can then be continued and further developed to the point where we will have normalized and integrated essentially all major datasets of a given type on particular cancers of interest to researchers from WEHI (e.g. bulk RNA-seq breast cancer) and elsewhere in the Parkville Precinct. Collaborative research with these researchers through interrogating the integrated datasets should follow. Extensions to newer technologies such as single cell RNA-seq and multi-omic datasets, and spatial studies should naturally follow. A major goal here is the development of “big data resources and expertise” so that both wet and dry lab WEHI researchers can benefit from this initiative.
